Congressman Bobby Rush has been sued by his bank. They are foreclosing on his home because he “neglected” to pay his property taxes on March 1, like the rest of us normal mortals. It is and has been standard practice for banks to place mortgages in default for non-payment of taxes. It is part of the mortgage contract- stress the word contract.
Most mortgages include the tax payment (escrow account) and the bank pays the property tax for you. In this case, the iconic congressman was supposed to pay his own.
Now, the congressman was probably notified immediately about the tax problem well ahead of the suit and foreclosure. That is also standard practice. He just “neglected” to act.
Instead of a mea culpa, his spokesweasel claimed the allegations were “puzzling” and highlighted “the callous and often times, extreme, non-negotiable practices of some banks that have contributed to millions of families in Chicago and the nation losing their homes.”
You see, it is the greedy, evil bank’s fault that Bobby Rush’s home is being foreclosed on. They are extreme and callous. Shades of Ebenezer Scrooge!
Get real! Mr. Rush screwed up. If they foreclose on his home, too bad. This is the typical progressive Democratic meme- blame someone else and call them extreme and callous. No one is personally responsible for their actions- especially a congressman.
Of course, if they do foreclose, the bank would probably be in hot water. They would be dragged before the congress in a McCarthy type hearing or worse, put out of business. Extremism is baaaad! Clout does have its virtue. You are not supposed to mess with a congressman.
Congressman Rush owes $3500.00 on his Chicago home- which he intends to pay immediately. He owes another $11,000.00 on a home in Michigan. No word on that payment. Us mere mortals would not be allowed to use a spokesweasel to castigate the evil greedy banks. We would just lose our homes. You see, we are held to a higher standard than congresscritters.
It is supposed to be the other way around.
The bank will probably back down, drop the suit, and even forgive the legal costs. They do not want trouble or heat. Guys in suits showing up to harass audit them. Too bad. Someone should tell Rush this is not a movie. Frank Capra is long dead and Bobby Rush is no George Bailey.
