It looks like the Democratic Machine has decided who the next mayor is. Note, not the candidate, the mayor. Rahm Emanuel is the machine choice for mayor and he will get their full backing. The fix is in.
|It’s all mine now!!!!!!!|
Did anyone think the Machine would let us actually elect someone we really want? Or worse, someone who would clean house?
According to Russ Stewart, a political analyst, the entire Northwest Side Democratic establishment is lining up behind Emanuel- Dick Mell, Gene Schulter, Pat Levar, Marge Laurino, Bill Banks, Patti Jo Cullerton, Randy Barnette, and State Rep. John D’Amico. These are some heavy hitters.
His only real opposition can come from Southwest Side Alderman Ed Burke. Rahm has the ability to raise over ten million dollars to win. Burke has 6.2 million in his campaign fund and can probably raise more. The problem is the vote. Twice as many votes were cast on the the Northwest Side that on the Southwest Side in 2008. Add in the Lakefront Wards, which would probably go for Rahm, and you have your next mayor.
You see, the Democrats do not want you, the voter, to choose. The made their choice and it is Rahm. Other committeemen, alderman, and elected officials will join the chorus now.
Rahm has OFA working for him, along with other Obama organizations. He will also have the blind support of the political organization unions like SEIU, the Teamsters, and the AFL-CIO. These groups will put formidable armies on the street in addition to what the Machine has left.
The choice is made. Why waste money on an election. Just have the coronation now.
Alderman Mathias Paddy Bauler was right in 1955. “Chicago ain’t ready for reform.”
