Jeff Tobolski, the mayor of McCook, and newly elected Cook County Commissioner, sees nothing wrong with hiring family members for positions in his town government. He has 17 relatives on the McCook payroll, including his wife.
Many relatives worked for his father, who was mayor. Tobolski inherited the mayor’s job when his father passed away. Mr. Tobolski sees nothing wrong with this. It is perfectly legitimate to hire your family members to run, manage, and operate government.
Much of this came out during the campaign. His opponent, Cook County Commissioner Tony Peraica, lambasted Tobolski over his clout hiring. It even hit the news. Tobolski justified it then, as he does now.
Tobolski does not actually hire his family. The Village Board does. Tobolski just provides a list to them of who he wants hired. Kind of like Daley and Robert Sorich- who went to prison for the same thing.
Funny, Tobolski savaged Todd Stroger during his campaign for the same thing; hiring family members to county jobs. But, Tobolski claims what he did was different. His family members were qualified for the jobs. Are you done laughing yet?
In the grand tradition of corruption, Tobolski will not give up his mayor’s job when he is seated as a County Commissioner. Tobolski claims to have told his family members none will be hired by the county.
He must think people are really that stupid. Wait, they are. They elected him!
