Now, the race is on and here comes Rahm up the backstretch
Chico’s a-going to the inside
Davis is holding back
They’re tryin’ not to fall
Tom Dart’s out of the runnin’
Luis scratched for another stake
The race is on and it looks like heartaches
And the public loses all!
And their off! The horse race for mayor is on. The Democratic Machine has the only candidates to choose from. Rahm is garnering the most support from the Machine so far. He is the spirited gelding, bursting with power to fly out of the gate. The Northwest side is just all Lady Gaga over him. Why not? He is part and parcel of the Machine. They own him.
Gery Chico is in it to stay. He is the mudder. But, he has to keep his stride on the fast track conditions to even come close. So far no Machine support is forthcoming. Unusual, seeing as he too is a part of the apparatus and, unlike Rahm, he stayed in Chicago. He built a reputation for troubleshooting and solving problems. But, he too is owned by the machine.
Danny Davis? He is an also ran nag. Ready for the glue factory. He is right where he belongs- in the U.S. House. He can snore on the back bench and every once in a while make a stentorian speech in his deep basso voice.
Carol Mosley Braun is the mare long ago put out to pasture. Her time came and went. She ran her last race years ago. She should rest on her laurels, grazing on the green grass, dreaming of past glory.
Yep, Chicago, we have a real one party- er, Machine- race on our hands.
|One of these will be your next mayor|
