The U.S. Department of Commerce has a broad mandate to advance economic growth and jobs and opportunities for the American people. It has cross cutting responsibilities in the areas of trade, technology, entrepreneurship, economic development, environmental stewardship and statistical research and analysis.
The products and services the department provides touch the lives of Americans and American companies in many ways, including weather forecasts, the decennial census, and patent and trademark protection for inventors and businesses.
The development of commerce to provide new opportunities was the central goal at the department’s beginning in 1903 and it remains a primary obligation today. (Emphasis mine)
The Secretary of Commerce oversees a $6.5 billion budget and approximately 38,000 employees. United States Department of Commerce Website.
For too long, the Obama Administration and the Democratic Party have been demonizing, denigrating, and dehumanizing the United States chamber of Commerce. They are calling the Chamber an extremist organization and a dangerous threat to Democracy.
The Chamber of Commerce has been doing what the United States Department of Commerce is supposed to be doing. So, is the United States Department of Commerce an extremist group and dangerous threat to Democracy? Is this extremist and dangerous threat paid for by our tax dollars- 6.5 billion dollars?
Or is the Department of Commerce a useless department and a toothless paper tiger? Doing nothing to advance the American Free Enterprise System? Maybe it is time to eliminate the Commerce Department. They are failing in their primary obligation. Their failure is an extreme threat to our democracy, national security, and economy.
As the voice of business, the Chamber’s core purpose is to fight for free enterprise before Congress, the White House, regulatory agencies, the courts, the court of public opinion, and governments around the world. US Chamber of Commerce Website
The Chamber of Commerce is the only voice of Business left in America. It is the only voice for jobs too, since private industry is the job provider for the nation. Not organized labor and not government. No private industry- no jobs.
So, class, who do you think is the real threat to Democracy- dangerous and extreme? The Chamber, which is actually doing things to create jobs? Or the Department of Commerce, which is doing nothing.
