The Sun Times used literary prose to endorse a poor candidate for governor. One man this and one man that. Not surprisingly, the Times endorsed Pat Quinn- the one man. The Sun Times would endorse a pig wearing perfume and lipstick, as long as it was a Democrat. The Times even admits Pat Quinn is “maddeningly undisciplined” and fumbling. But, he is a Democrat. No matter how incompetent, feckless, inept, corrupt, reckless, unethical, or irresponsible Quinn is, he gets the Times endorsement. They are a progressive paper.
The real problem with the Times endorsement is they resorted to outright lies to justify themselves. The Times claims Quinn is pro-business. Nothing is further from the truth. Quinn has done nothing, zero, zilch, nada, to improve the business environment in Illinois. Illinois has the distinction of being ranked 47th in business friendliness. During the past year Iowa, Southern Wisconsin, Indiana, and Tennessee have benefited from the catastrophe known as Illinois.
They claim Quinn will preserve programs which help the most vulnerable among us and he will bolster education. Things Quinn himself threatened to cut if he did not get his precious tax hike- a hike he has been promoting since 2005. He went on a bloody Jihad, holding those programs hostage. He lost that one. No tax hike. Yet. By the way, social service agencies who help those in need are barely getting by. Illinois is not paying their bills. Many may close up shop and some are selling their state debt to predatory debt service companies.
The Sun Times claims Quinn is a man of courage. Yet, his cowardice is apparent when caving in to state employee unions in return for big bucks campaign contributions- totaling millions of dollars. Someone should tell him he is management. A private sector CEO and union leaders would be indicted for such corrupt conflict of interest.
In the almost two years Quinn has been governor he has demonstrated a total lack of leadership and management ability. Worse than his convicted predecessor. Financially the state has gone from bad to worse and worse to worst under his watch.
The Sun Times endorsement proves, once and for all, there is no such thing as ethics in journalism. There is no objective coverage. There is no opinion based on fact. There is no fair and balanced. Their endorsement conveniently left out the disclaimer- I’m Pat Quinn and I approved this ad.
The Sun Times is nothing but a shameless propaganda sheet.
