Bird Brained

I live in the 5th Congressional District.  The District that gave us Rod Blagojevich, Rahm Emanuel, Mike Quigley; and of course the man whose royal permission they all needed to run for office, powerhouse Jimmy DeLeo, the Mob’s man in the Democratic Party.

I received an interesting email from the Quigley campaign.  It contained the usual progressive social Democratic Party clap trap and the false criticisms against the GOP.  But this one quote stood out:

Promoting sustainable construction in the Army and bird-safe federal buildings.

To my knowledge, there are few, if any Army buildings in the Fifth Congressional District.  Sustainable construction, by the way, costs more money- tax money.  But, bird safe federal buildings?  I did not realize there was a grassroots groundswell of support for bird safe Federal buildings.  I cannot even find a Bird Safe Party Movement.  There are no protests, rallies, or posters in the district demanding bird safe federal buildings.  No massive email blasts seeking donations for candidates who promote bird safe buildings, no Facebook pages or Twitter accounts, nothing.  I do not even see massive flocks of birds rallying or protesting.

What is a bird safe building anyway?  Look, I love birds.  Especially those tasty ones I enjoy cooking and eating.  But inflating the already high costs of construction- especially tax funded Federal construction- to render buildings bird safe is a fiscal abomination.

I did look it up.  A bird safe building is designed to allegedly prevent birds from crashing into buildings and killing themselves.  O-O-OKAY.  The New York Audubon Society even has architectural guidelines to design bird safe buildings.  One would think, since the Democrats have driven the economy into a ditch and have kept it stuck there, spinning their wheels, there would be more pressing issues than sustainable Army construction and bird safe buildings.

Maybe we need legislation to prevent bird brained politicians, like Mike Quigley, from holding elective office.
