Alderman Bernie Stone equated the crime of vote fraud with spitting on the sidewalk. He made the comment in connection with two of his operative’s convictions for vote fraud. One of the operatives was his ward superintendent, an important post, as the superintendent is responsible for services in the ward.
Initially charged with felonies, the judge convicted them of misdemeanors and sentenced them to one year in jail. The judge stated they attempted to steal democracy in a vicious way. Bernie Stone charged that former Inspector General David Hoffman, who initiated the investigation, was the one who stole Democracy, not his operatives. Stone called the case a witch hunt and referred to his operatives as political prisoners.
Alderman Bernie Stone represents everything that is wrong in the Chicago City Council. What he would have said or done if the Federal Government arrested and tried his operatives? Would he accuse the FBI or the U.S. Attorney of conducting a witch hunt?
Vote fraud is not the same as spitting on the sidewalk. It is spitting on the United States Constitution and spitting in the face of all the honest citizens who vote properly. Bernie Stone should resign now. He is not fit to serve the people of Chicago. He never was. He is nothing more than a criminal in a cheap suit.
