Alderman Rey Colon failed to file election reports for three years- he failed to disclose over $120,000.00 is campaign contributions and he failed to disclose expenditures of $180,000.00. Colon is now facing a State Board of Election inquiry. He is blaming campaign staff, the sign of a true and wise Democrat. Never, ever, take personal responsibility if you can blame someone else and become a victim.
He can be fined 100 percent of the undisclosed donations, but first time offenders usually are fined ten percent. What a joke. A better penalty would be a fine and a prohibition on running for office for a certain amount of years. But, this is Illinois, he is a corrupt Chicago Democratic Machine Alderman, and he did eventually file. So, now he is doing that famous Democratic disco dance- the Mea Culpa.
This is one glaring reason why we need total and tough ethics reform and enforcement in Illinois, Cook County, and, of course, Chicago- the most thoroughly corrupt city in America. Rey Colon, like most of his corrupt enterprising brethren will get the usual slap on the wrist; and probably another turn in office. We, the good citizens will get duped. Again.
