Thank you Robert Grant

FBI Special Agent In Charge, Robert Grant, responded to Mayor Daley’s latest silly, just silly, broadside against the FBI.

When asked about a massive set of weapons raids by the FBI, Daley responded-
“Well, finally. Thank God, they did it. Where have they been?” Daley said. “The Chicago Police round ’em up every day, every week and every month. You give ’em no publicity for that. And they solve crimes in the community. We don’t wait for the feds.”

SAIC Grant responded- the FBI, with the assistance of Chicago Police Officers- have been working all along on mass weapons cases.  Daley also knows the FBI is an investigative agency, not a police agency.  Investigations take time and resources.  Sometimes years go by before an investigation yields results.  But, true to form, Daley chose to be his silly, just silly, self.

Instead of giving credit where credit is due,  Daley decided to do what he does best, blubber silly diatribes and obliquely blame others for problems he caused or ignored.  Daley knows the FBI has been working hard to make mass weapon arrests and other arrests of major criminals in this city.  His own police officers are assigned to various FBI Task Forces.  They report back to the Police Department, which reports back to him.

Of course, the problem is not just weapons.  Silly Daley would have the whole world believe guns are the only problem.  Daley has done everything he can to enable the growing gang problem in this city, along with the escalating violence due to drug sales.  Daley’s sin is one of omission.  For almost twenty years he has purposely been ignoring the mounting problems for two reasons.  One, he does not want to offend racial and ethnic communities.  Daley is Mr. Sensitive.  Two, real estate developers, who are gentrifying areas adjacent to the gang infested and drug infested areas do not want this information out.  Who would by a home, condo, or townhouse near gang or drug territory?

Add to this the corrupt aldermen, who do not want tough crack downs in their wards, and you have the perfect storm of problems which cannot be solved.  A crisis being wasted.  Stupid racial and ethnic politics threatening the very fabric of communities and the lives of the residents.

The major street gangs have been growing at a phenomenal rate.  Worse, as a former Police Superintendent has stated, they no longer fear the police.   They do not fear prison or death either.  The situation now is worse than the 1920s, the Roaring Twenties, when criminals roamed at will and killed and slaughtered who and where they wanted with impunity.

Thanks to Daley’s hands off policy, a dangerous situation has been created.  There will never be enough police officers to battle the gangs and drug cartels.  If they do, the criminals will retaliate and there will be open warfare on the streets.  Chicago will be come a war zone.  There will also be riots.  The gangs will incite them.

This is Daley’s fear.  Open warfare on the streets between gangs, drug dealers, and police, and riots.  This is also Daley’s fault.  Through his quiet appeasement, he has created this deadly situation.  He has been listening to the wrong people.  He has ignored the police, the FBI, and any law enforcement people who have tried to bend his ear and warn him.  For twenty years.

Mindless liberals can rail all they want about the so called root causes of crime.  In Chicago, the root causes of crime are greed and power.  It has been that way since the first settler, DuSable, traded booze to the Indians for furs.  A major felony at the time.  The gangs and drug dealers are greedy and they share power in this city with the corrupt politicians.  They are now powerful beyond imagination.  They are the Untouchables.

So, thank you Robert Grant.  Thanks for the hard work.  Thanks for the effort.  Thanks for your people and the police officers assigned to the FBI for helping to solve problems.  More importantly, thanks for telling the truth.
Note:  The blogger is a recently retired Chicago Police Officer.
