Worse than Obama

Usually mayors have fairly good approval ratings, especially pro-active mayors.  It is really sad when a mayor has lower approval ratings than the President.  It is worse when that mayor is one of the most powerful Democrats in the country and runs the most powerful Democratic Party in the country.

Mayor Richard M. Daley’s approval rating is 37 percent- ten full points behind the Great One.  His disapproval rating is is 47 percent.  Worse, only 31 percent polled would like to see him reelected. 53 percent polled do not want him reelected.

There are myriad reasons for the low numbers.  Bottom line- since he took office in 1989 Chicago has regained the sobriquet of being the most thoroughly corrupt city in America.  The mayor has been plagued by scandal after scandal; most involving his close friends and family members.  The Democratic Friends and Family Plan.  Daley’s response- layers of new costly bureaucracy to allegedly stop the corruption.  In reality, it just creates more layers to shield him.  Just like organized crime.

The problem for us as citizens is no matter how low Daley’s approval ratings go- even if they go into negative territory- there is no credible opponent to challenge him.  If he runs, we will be in for four more years of corruption, crime, political intrigue, and excuses.  If his pet aldermen get reelected things will only get worse.

The time is now.  Real Change means real change.  If the voters were smart, they would dump this mayor and replace all the Aldermen.  If the voters were smart they would never elect anyone allied with the Democratic Machine.  That is a big if.  For some reason people are proud of the criminal enterprise called the Chicago City Council.  For some reason people are proud of godfather Daley.

It is time to take a chance and a leap into the unknown.  Ask yourself this- what would Chicago be like without organized crime- The Democratic Party- running things?
